Pastor Update

We are beginning a new emphasis here at Oakland. We will spend the entire spring quarter (March through May) studying God’s word with material from Peacemakers Ministry. Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” (Matthew 5:9)
Peacemaking is hard. We are told not just to be peaceful, but to go and make peace. It takes effort. It takes skill and it takes humility. My prayer is that we can improve our skills, be motivated to make the effort, and model the humility of Christ.
Peacemaking is not natural. Our natural inclination is competition. Our sinful desires push us to satisfy our own wants and preferences at the expense of others. The world says to “look out for number one.” They tell us to push away difficult people. But God calls us to be peacemakers.
Peacemaking reflects God’s love and His plan. God is the ultimate peacemaker. People are separated from God because of sin. But the Bible tells us that while we were God’s enemies, Christ brought about reconciliation through the cross. (Romans 5:10) Additionally, He has given us the ministry of reconciliation. (2 Corinthians 5:18)
Please join us in this journey.

Blessings to you,

Pastor Cliff
